The Church gives us the guidelines, the three pillars being fasting, prayer and almsgiving.
Do you notice that nothing is said about giving something up for Lent? A Lenten resolution? When we get down to the basics, Lent is about only one thing—growing deeper in our relationship with the Lord.
This year, Holy Name of Jesus and St. Edward’s churches would like to give you a great opportunity to join in prayer together by offering a Lenten Rosary on the six Sundays of Lent at 3 PM, the hour of Christ’s death and the hour that Christ asked for the Divine Mercy Chaplet to be said. Sunday’s are ideal as it is the The Lord’s Day; Jesus taught the Sabbath was for human benefit, a day of rest and prayer, to refresh our souls.
What better sacrifice can we make than giving up our mundane everyday activities in favor of spending time in prayer? Let us redefine how we keep The Lord’s Day; by spending time with Him, we will grow IN our relationship with Him.
So what better way to develop a deeper relationship with God, which is our Lenten mission, than by reading/listening to his Word, the Bible, and contemplating the life of Christ through the mysteries of the rosary? What better way to thank Him for His great sacrifice and for our salvation? What a beautiful offering, during this time of sacrifice and self-giving, to pass through Mary’s Immaculate Heart, to Jesus’ Sacred Heart, and on to the Father, for His greater Glory.
So join us on the six Sundays of Lent for 1.5-2 hours to pray this special rosary. The schedule is as follows:
Feb. 22 - Holy Name of Jesus; March 1 - St. Edward: March 8 - Holy Name of Jesus: March 15 - St. Edward, March 22 - Holy Name of Jesus: and Palm Sunday, March 29. - St. Edward.
Both parishes wish this to be a coming together in prayer.
And may you each fulfill your Lenten mission, to grow a deeper relationship with the Lord.
