Parish Social Ministries

St. Edward's PSM is continuing to operate and serve people with food and basic household items, and in any way that it can. If you have a need or know someone in need, please leave a message at (516) 921-8030, ext. 140. Clients have been picking up their items at the pantry Monday - Thursday and the second Saturday of each month from 9:30 am- noon, carefully maintain social distancing. If you have any questions or concerns, please call the number above. 

PANTRY NEEDS: Food and household items are needed. If you have any extra or are willing to purchase additional items when you shop, that would be great! Items can be left in the Church vestibule, which is open during daytime hours. Some suggested items: canned chicken, tuna fish, lentils, ketchup, mayonnaise, jelly, pancake mix, deodorant, toothpaste, shampoo, conditioner, baby diapers size 5 & 6, wipes, laundry detergent, dish soap, toilet paper, paper towels.

In addition, financial donations specifically for Parish Social Ministry can be mailed to St. Edward the Confessor Church, attn. Parish Social Ministry, 205 Jackson Avenue, Syosset, NY 11791 or slid through the rectory door.

Parish Social Ministry (PSM) provides food and basic necessities of living through the parish pantry, with the assistance of Island Harvest and the Island Harvest providers, such as King Kullen of Huntington; Stop & Shop in Oyster Bay; Marios Pizzeria in Plainview; 7-11; Panera Bread in Plainview and Fox Hollow of Woodbury. 

The Pantry, located in the main parking lot adjacent to the Gymnasium, is open at the times listed above. Those in need are welcome to visit the Pantry during its operating hours or make an appointment by calling the Pantry office. New clients will meet with a PSM coordinator to discuss their needs and situation confidentially. The coordinator can make referrals to the St. Edward Conference of St. Vincent de Paul if necessary.

PSM relies on the gracious support of our parishioners and various parish ministries (such as the Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Catholic Daughters, Religious Ed and St. Edward School) throughout the year, especially with the monthly Missioners’ Food Collections and periodic drives, including Back-to-School, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and  Easter.

PSM also organizes the Hot Lunch Program at Eastwoods Apartments in Syosset. These special lunches are served most months throughout the year.

If you or someone you know is struggling and in need of assistance, please contact us at the number above. Please leave your name and phone number. In the past, our Conference has helped parishioners and those living within our parish boundaries, with utility bills, car payments, insurance payments, medical bills, etc. Upon receiving your call, two Vincentians will visit you at your residence and evaluate how/if we can be of assistance.

 In addition, the Conference sponsors a winter coat and hat drive in conjunction with PSM’s Thanksgiving drive.
